New flagship referral hospital to open in 2022
7th July 2021
Highcroft Referrals is excited to share plans to move to a new state-of-the-art Specialist veterinary hospital in Avonmouth, Bristol.
The new hospital will have Specialists in every discipline and cutting-edge technology, including a stereotactic linear accelerator for radiotherapy in cancer treatment, the only one of its kind for pets in England.
As featured in Vet Times, Bristol Vet Specialists (BVS) will act as a flagship hub for small animal pet owners in the South West and Wales. The ever-expanding team here at Highcroft Referrals, who currently share a site with Highcroft Veterinary Group, will move to the new purpose-built facility. Bristol Vet Specialists will build on the success of Highcroft Veterinary Referrals, which has now reached capacity and therefore has limited scope for expanding specialist services.
The new hospital, which is due to open in the summer of 2022, will be custom-built with uniquely designed facilities, installing state-of-the-art diagnostic tools, such as MRI and CT scanners, alongside a cutting-edge Elekta Infinity stereotactic linear accelerator (“Linac”). Stereotactic radiotherapy allows high doses of radiation to be delivered to a tumour extremely accurately whilst sparing surrounding healthy tissue. This has the great advantage of compressing treatment plans to a few days rather than several weeks, making definitive cancer treatment much more palatable and convenient for pet owners.
Specialists and Clinical Directors at Highcroft Referrals, Paul Higgs and Delphine Holopherne-Doran, will be leading the new hospital. “We and our team are extremely excited by the opportunity to develop a fully multi-disciplinary hospital where we will be able to manage any canine or feline problem under one roof. We’ve been working closely with the design team to ensure we have the best possible facilities and working environment, whilst at the same time developing new approaches to client and patient care. It will be fantastic to bring this additional layer of support to our referring practices and look forward to showing many of our colleagues around in the future.”
Planning permission is secured, and building contractors are being appointed for the new site at Central Park, Avonmouth. Look out for updates and video footage over the coming months at CVS Referrals.
