James M Histed
RCVS® recognised Specialist in Veterinary Ophthalmology
James was born and raised in Ontario, Canada. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in marine and freshwater biology from the University of Guelph, before going on to obtain his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the Atlantic Veterinary College, University of Prince Edward Island, Canada in 2006. He went on to complete a rotating internship in small animal medicine and surgery at the Ontario Veterinary College, University of Guelph, Canada from 2006-2007.
James subsequently moved to the USA and completed a combined three year academic and private practice residency with North Carolina State University and Animal Eye Care from 2007-2010. In August 2010 James obtained the qualifications of being a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists.
Returning home to Canada, James worked as an associate veterinary ophthalmologist at a busy urban referral ophthalmology practice in Toronto. Between 2012-2014, James was also an adjunct professor in ophthalmology for the Ontario Veterinary College, in Guelph, Canada. In 2014, James took on a new adventure in life, moving from Canada to Surrey, UK, where he worked at one of the UK’s largest and most advanced veterinary referrals centres.
A new and exciting chapter in life has brought James to the Bristol area, where he is now using his experience and skill to develop one of the UKs best ophthalmology referral services at Highcroft Veterinary Referrals.
James brings with him a passion for veterinary ophthalmology, several years of medical and surgical experience, and with a special interest in ocular adnexal surgical disease. Further, like all at Highcroft, he strives to provide excellent patient care, client relationships, and communication with referring veterinary surgeons.
